No "welcome timeline" in landing/login page

Hello!
I'm pretty new to all of this federated stuff and wanted to try self-hosting a Misskey/Firefish/Sharkey instance and finally landed on Sharkey.
I saw other instances of the aforementioned ones, either big or small communities, alongside single user instances and they all had this "scrolling timeline" in the home page (while logged out, basically).
Mine doesn't. How can I enable it, and now that I'm already at it, customize it a little bit? For example: if I manage to enable it I wouldn't need the "Look at the timeline" widget there (idk if that's the correct name in English, sorry about that as this is not my first language).

the scrolling timeline in the "welcome" page only shows "featured" notes, and the code confuses me a bit; I guess it will only show notes that have many reactions/replies/boosts?
re: customise, yes, the only way is to edit the

I suppose it's the same thing to customize the bottom list of instances, correct?

☺️ look at my instance… https://s.thenautilus.net/ same situation, I guessthe list of instances (see https://git.joinsharkey.org/Sharkey/Sharkey/src/branch/develop/packages/frontend/src/pages/welcome.entrance.a.vue) shows the top 20 (by pub/sub traffic) remote instances.
