Another user deleting a post on Mastodon deletes my Sharkey reply

What happened?

A Mastodon user posted. I replied. They replied to my reply, and I replied to them.

Then they deleted their original post ... and my replies disappeared as well!

What did you expect to happen?

I expected my first reply to remain, without a parent post; and I expected my second reply to remain, with their (undeleted) reply-to-reply as the parent.

This is semi-intended behavior, since the post is gone, the thought is that the reply has no more parent, and should therefore be discarded; though i do agree that they should not be.

Additionally, it appears you're not the administrator of your instance. I appreciate you taking the initiative, but please make sure your admin knows about your issue request! it might be hidden in the database; or your administrator can provide inportant details that you might not have, like modifications made to SK, deployments, or if their instance is stale in updates. ❤️

Apologies for the belated response, yes I've talked with my admin about it. I can see why people who are used to that behavior would want to keep it that way so maybe the best thing to do would be to make it configurable by the admin -- or even individual user?

instead of deleting the note, we may want to check if it's got replies, and if so, delete the contents and mark the note as deleted (rendered to AP as a Tombstone object, displayed as "this note was deleted" to the frontend)
