Ability to hide replies in all timelines

What feature would you like implemented? (Please give us a brief description of what you'd like.)

The ability to hide replies is available on the local and social timelines. This is very appreciated!

I would like to request this functionality on all timelines, in the Global timeline being the most important in my opinion.

The global timeline is fantastic for discovery, and sometimes I appreciate seeing replies as part of that discovery, but other times I REALLY would prefer to avoid other people's conversations.

Whenever it is a reply or two its not a big deal, but if you have 3 or more people involved in a topic, and if the topic has some steam as well, the conversation can quickly clutter the global timeline for smaller instances where all you see is rehashes of the original post and replies to it.

Why should we add this feature? (Please give us a brief description of why your feature is important.)

If you have already viewed the topic in question, you may have already decided the conversation is not relevant to you and you want to explore other, fresher topics.

The more people reply, the more conversation you see about the topic you already wish to avoid

The more federated your instance is, the more this problem happens across multiple conversations as well!

I agree with this statement. I really am annoyed a lot of times when it's just something I'm not interested in, but I don't want to mute the person outright.

I also want to add that I don't want to see replies to their own reply which then reply to someone else I don't follow in my feed. It's pretty annoying.

most timelines should have a withReplies setting, but it's only available for local&social timelines… mah (see https://activitypub.software/TransFem-org/Sharkey/-/blob/develop/packages/frontend/src/timelines.ts#L59 and places that call hasWithReplies)

anyway, with the new "collapse notes replied to", this problem should be much reduced.
