Link verification isn't done on remote users.
What feature would you like implemented?
we currently only verify local users' profile links. this is suboptimal because i have to click 'open in remote instance' every time i want to check the authenticity of a user.
fedi is already facing an accidental denial of service problem because of summaly and it's equivalents bombarding links when posts go too well. we ideally don't want to bombard a user's website when they link to it on their profile. in this regard:
But a randomly-delayed job in the queue could be enough - dakkar
we may also want to signal on the frontend that a link is enqueued so that the user doesn't dismiss it as an unverified/unofficial hyperlink.
Why should we add this feature?
i feel like this is necessary since link verification is a big part of fediverse trust. it's also misleadingly counterintuitive because (if you're used to mastodon) you expect an unverified link to mean the user is a mirror or parody account.
