Feat: Matrix chat widget

What feature would you like implemented?

A sidebar widget for connecting to your existing Matrix account and doing chat there

Why should we add this feature?

• People chat on Matrix, but it's awkward to have to switch to a dedicated client for it if you are already online in the "communicating with people" mode
• End-to-end encryption is a really good thing

I am actually working on this, because I think it would be neat for my server, but in keeping with the contribution guidelines I am posting here to get feedback before spending a ton of time on it all on my own.

I have to be honest, I think it's highly unlikely that we'd ever add something like this. A proper matrix client is very complex and involves lots of cryptography - something that we don't have the time or skills to maintain.

Oh, no, I'm just using the Matrix SDK. The widget is just a thin wrapper around the library. I would never dream of trying to reimplement the thing.

There is I guess still an issue of bloating the client with all kinds of random stuff just because there is one person somewhere who thinks some random particular thing would be neat. I am not importing the library until the user enables the widget and attempts to sign in, but that doesn't mean that there is no impact from maintaining it in the source tree + extra dependencies + including it in the stuff that gets packaged up and presumably included on some level in the blob that goes to the client when loading everything up. I'm happy with whatever your judgement is, as far as having it in the main source tree or not.
