Improve my previous emoji endpoints patch.

What does this MR do?

fixes #893 (closed) plus some refactoring for the linter.

when i did !746 (merged) i didn't run the linter (wasn't super familiar) and assumed it was good enough for a quick patch while making a crucial mistake when using the typeorm library.
